Redwood Asset Management Inc. is a privately-owned Toronto-based investment fund manager that distributes a number of mutual and hedge funds. Redwood is a boutique investment firm that takes on a sub-advisory model to manage the assets of all of their mutual funds. It invests in public equity and fixed income markets.[1] It currently has 280 million assets under management.

History

Redwood was founded 2002, but assumed its present form in 2009 with the merger of two Canadian mutual fund companies Ark Funds and Redwood. There were no changes made to the firms' funds or sub-advisors which included : Aston Hill Financial, Lawrence Decter Investment Counsel, SciVest Capital Management, NorthRoad Capital Management and Sentry Select Capital.[2] As of 2010, Redwood teamed with CIBC Mellon Global Securities Services Company who provides asset services for a number of the company's funds.[3] In 2013, Redwood was released from the responsibility of the Clearpoint Global Dividend Fund, the management of this fund was transferred from Redwood to Caldwell Investment Management.[4]

Mutual funds

Redwood Asset Management currently has five income funds, three octane funds and one advisor managed fund. The most prominent funds in the fund family are the Redwood Emerging Markets Dividend Fund[5], the Redwood Unconstrained Bond Class[6] and the Redwood Equity Growth Class[7]. The Redwood Emerging Markets Dividend Fund, launched in 2010 is said to be the first Canadian fund aimed at emerging market dividends[8].

Managers

Redwood works with a variety of investment management firms includes LDIC Inc., Reams Asset Management Co. LLC, Somerset Capital Management LLP, and StoneCastle Investment Management Inc. that handle their various funds.[9]
