Finance is typically the commercial activity of providing funds and capital from one party to another. It can also be used as a verb, to obtain or provide money for, as in, "Can we finance the addition to our home?"
The finance industry has created many layers of management of money and credit and banking and investments. Some might argue that these multiple layers of speculation upon speculative loans and investments is what caused the financial crisis of late 2008.
