Situated directly on the beach front below historic Arthur Head is the J Shed housing a number of established Fremantle Artists. It has been operating as a productive art space since 1992. In recent times more artists studios have been established in the old Port buildings creating a Bathers Beach Arts Precinct. ^[1]^[2] Fremantle is a city in on the west coast of Australia.

Update Concerning Bathers Beach Fremantle and Marisa Spaziani

We have had some very disturbing news.

The Director of Community Development, Marisa Spaziani (City of Fremantle) does not want Jenny and I to stay in J Shed Art Studio as professional artists. Up rooting a successful business within West End Fremantle is not the way to go. Note: On page 22 of the Fremantle Council document. Jenny and I are very worried about this sentence.

"Previous recipients of a studio space at Arthur Head would be ineligible to apply for another space in the precinct."

This implies that our tenure as J Shed Art Studio will be terminated. As I have written to Brad (Mayor of Fremantle), the precincts future is not promising if this is adopted.

All the ideas we "The Bathers Beach - Arthur Head Group (BBAHG Greg James Sculpture Studio Gallery, J Shed Art Studio, Kidogo Arthouse Fremantle & Glen Cowans )" offered as a way to revitalise the area have been discounted and ignored.

We have been given a very short time to stop the City of Fremantle from tuning this into a policy. A meeting will be held on 11th April in Council Chambers at 6pm. It will then go to Council for final decision on Tuesday 24th April at 6pm in Council Chambers.

Additional: Marisa Spaziani document is very similar to the Cultural Development Working Group document that was created by Cr Tim Grey-Smith, Cr Josh Wilson, Mayor Brad Pettitt (ex-officio), Chris Bendall, David Hyams, Jon Cope, Andra Kins, Jacqueline Holmer and Bob Reece (City of Fremantle). It was rejected at the time by the Council as inadequate.
