Early Life

He was a highly active sportsman up until his late-teens participating in various sports including cricket, rugby, swimming, cross-country, and track. During his young soccer career, Smith was awarded both 'Player of the Year' and 'Sportsman of the Year' while playing for various clubs.

In 1997 at the age of twelve and three (3) years after the fall of apartheid, Smith's family joined the mass exodus of emigrants attempting to escape the political unrest and crime that was being seen in South Africa. After his father signed a contract with a textile firm, Smith moved with his family to the south-east USA, settling in Atlanta, Georgia.

After a full semester of University, he soon uncovered his passion in software development after signing up for a introductry Computer Science class. For every single one of the next four (4) semesters, Smith made the Dean's honor list. Due to unforeseen circumstances, Smith was forced to abandon his degree to move to the UK.

In August, 2004, Smith enrolled at The University of Reading as a Computer Science student under the School of Systems Engineering. Mr. Smith graduated from the The University of Reading in 2007 with the highest grade-point average in the Computer Science Department. He was appropriately awarded the Hockney Prize for "The Best Student in Computer Science". Despite being accepted into the University of Kent in Canterbury as an MSc student to study 'Distributed Systems and Networks', Smith decided to enter the workforce as software engineer.

Professional Blogging

PlayerBites

In March of 2007, Smith and a fellow University student created PlayerBites.com, a site providing news and reviews on upcoming MP3 and portable media players. Subsequently after launch, Smith was given sole responsibility of the site.

PlayerBites, with its mere year-long life span, became a goto site in its niche. Numerous articles featured on the likes of Engadget, Gizmodo and other tech related sites. During its short stint, PlayerBites received over 1,000 unique visitors on average per day and made about $200 a month.

BlogaPro

PlayerBites ceased to exist in March of 2008 so that Smith could focus his attention elsewhere. Utilizing his previous success as a platform, Smith launched BlogaPro, a site that teaches individuals how to make money blogging, in an attempt to give back to the community sharing his knowledge of professional blogging.

Topics covered include:

  1. An introduction to professional blogging
  2. Positive utilization of social media
  3. Blogger Interviews
  4. Search engine optimization (SEO)

Personal Information

I spend a lot of time parked in front of the computer. More often than not, it is not by choice. When I'm not blogging or writing software, I like to go for a walks.

Keeping fit is an ongoing goal; running is my favorite past-time. I also enjoy listening to music (while driving I might add), playing the guitar, and fishing. I own two fresh-water aquariums which are my pride and joy.

In my spare time, I love finding new ways to make money. I often refer to it as an obsession.
