Openserving is a project owned by Wikia, founded on December 12, 2006.[1] Openserving, like Wikia, offers wiki hosting, but differs from Wikia in that it will supposedly give the founder of the wiki the revenue from the advertising on the site,[2] and unlike other hosts, Openserving doesn't charge for anything.[1] According to Jimmy Wales the site saw several thousand applications within the first month, January 2007.[3] However, nearly a year later, and no sites have actually been launched under the Openserving banner. The project has not issued any press releases since December 2006.
Openserving used a modified version of Wikimedia's Metawiki wiki software created by ArmchairGM, but was going to be branching out to other opensource packages.[1]
