Devil's Millhopper State Geological Site is at 4732 Millhopper Road (SR 232), following signs. Measuring 120 feet deep and 500 feet across, this sinkhole formed as early as 10,000 years ago. The area is home to plants and animals normally found in the ravines of the Appalachian Mountains. A half-mile walking path circles the sinkhole while a 232-step wooden walkway descends it. An interpretive center houses exhibits about the natural history of the site as well as an audiovisual presentation about sinkholes. Picnic facilities are available. Allow 30 minutes minimum. Open Monday through Friday 9-5, Saturday and Sunday 9-dusk, April through September; daily 9-5, rest of the year. Guided tours depart Saturday at 10. Phone 352.955.2008.
