Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum is at 907 Whitehead Street. Hemingway bought the 1851 Spanish colonial-style mansion in 1931. Among works written here is "For Whom the Bell Tolls." The house, set in a lush tropical garden planted by the author, is home to more than 50 cats, descendants of Hemingway's felines. Of interest is the penny embedded in the concrete at the head of the pool-it supposedly was tossed there when Hemingway discovered the pool's $20,000 price tag. Allow 30 minutes minimum. Open daily 9-5. Phone 305.294.1575.
