Robotic Packaging Automation Systems

Robotic packaging is primarily employed by consumer goods manufacturers of perishable or disposable products such as food stuffs and paper products. Robotic assembly applications are performed by a variety of industrial robots including 6 axis articulated arms, scara robots , cartesian coordinate robots (a.k.a. gantry robots), & parallel robots (a.k.a. delta or “picker” robots). Specialized packaging robots are available that sacrifice accuracy for greater speed to increase throughput.

Part to tool based designs dominate the installed base of robotic packaging systems. Typical end of arm tooling mechanisms include vacuum cups or pneumatic grippers, and is largely dependent on part size, weight, & surface conditions. Regardless of whether the robot directly manipulates product into packaging or visa versa it is categorized as a part to tool based robot design.
