Directory talk:Garrett Minks
Please discuss me in great detail.
I nominate you for...
FUNNIEST CENTIARIAN of 2007. Okay, I know... there's still a whole lot of 2007 remaining, but the Academy is convinced nonetheless -- no funnier person on Centiare is likely to emerge during this particular orbit of the sun. Thanks for being here. If Centiare stands any chance of beating MySpace, it will be thanks to contributors like you. --MyWikiBiz 21:33, 31 January 2007 (PST)
Sub Pages
Garrett, Centiare is all about ownership; we believe that trying to impose NPOV on any subject/topic that has more than on view-point leads to arbitration and corruption ie favoritism. Rather, we prefer that readers are offered multiple points of view (ie the marketplace of ideas) so that they may choose & decide based on the merits of an argument.
That being said, you might be interested in this trick: Main space type articles don't have to be placed in the Main space. That's right, you can create protected sub-pages either under your Directory and/or User pages to cover any topic you want without interference from others. More importantly, you can add semantic tags to credit your contribution and improve SEO.
For instance, while you made a fine contribution to Surfing, there's no obvious way for casual users, other than the history page, to trace it back to your Directory page. (Only Main space article that have been protected by the ERB are allowed to have contribution links, otherwise Main space rules are just like Wikipedia ie no link spam.)
Now, contrast that policy with these examples:
See those nice little Java charts? They're generated from ASK queries after the respective sub-pages have either been tagged with Attributes and/or Relations. You're a smart guy - you can probably see what this is all about. There's literally no limit to what one can do in terms of building out a complete MySpace, IMDB, etc. semantic facility at Centiare. And once you get going, you're going to be amazed at how well Google picks up the RDFs automatically generated at the bottom of each page using semantic tags. Snerfling 05:57, 1 February 2007 (PST)
- I should have added an explanation of how to create a sub-page. Just add a forward slash (/) after your directory listing and/or user name like this:
Directory:Garrett_Minks/Interests Directory:Garrett_Minks/Movies Directory:Garrett_Minks/Music
- Drop me a line if you have any questions/comments. Snerfling 06:04, 1 February 2007 (PST)
